Album Review: Beyonce's '4' Muddles Its Messages →
I’ve never really been a fan of Beyonce’s newer albums. They just seem frantic and a lil the same to my ear (the dance tracks anyway, the ballads a re a different story); and I’ve always thought the messages she sends through her songs are a bit hypocritical when put beside her actions. For instance, the song Bootylicious - she sang about loving your body (and shaking your jelly,...

Gay Life Against Marriage

Derek Jarman (via)
A review of Derek Jarman’s At Your Own Risk
By Max Fox
Under the sign of marriage, gay politics seems poised on the brink of completion. Only a few more legislative coups, only a few more senators to lobby, and gays and lesbians will attain the full status of citizens in liberal democracy. The groom and the soldier, prototypically patriarchal fetishes, are...

Pottermore: Is New J.K. Rowling Website Good for... →
While I think Pottermore.com could be a really interesting look into the Harry Potter world and kudos to Rowling for getting so interactive with her readers, I share the same concern about young kids nowadays not reading enough.
Reading is such an intellectual pastime that opens up worlds, develops the brain and expands the imagination. In a world where depression abounds and people increasingly...

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde My rating: 5 of 5 stars Absolutely BRILLIANT book!!! Part steampunk, part sci-fi, part crime thriller and a whole lot of whimsy. Totally original. A world in which criminal gangs have targeted literature, there are literary detectives, time travel is possible and history is..murky. At first you wonder what in the hell is going on? Well, just take the Daily...

"Remember that time..."
jackandhall:
I absolutely love this “memory jar” idea. Throughout the year, record special days or funny things that occurred onto slips of paper and store them in a jar. At the end of the year(or whenever you need a pick-me-up), read through them all and enjoy!

SUCH a good idea. Perfect for reunions, or getting together with friends and having a laugh. I looiikkee it!!

Does Addictive Internet Use Restructure the Brain? →
infoneer-pulse:
Kids spend an increasing fraction of their formative years online, and it is a habit they dutifully carry into adulthood. Under the right circumstances, however, a love affair with the Internet may spiral out of control and even become an addiction.
Whereas descriptions of online addiction are controversial at best among researchers, a new study cuts through much of the debate...

An essay on gynobibliophobia and the critical reception of women writers.

really interesting. Do women and men write differently? Is there a ‘man’s’ way of writing and a ‘woman’s’ ?
Personally I don’t really take notice of what gender the author is as long as i enjoy the book. As a female...

Nonsense
Me: mommmmyy, there's a government official downstairs
Mom: what? why?
Me: I don't know, all I know is there is a government official downstairs.
Mom: (glaring at me) They are probably going to complain because you've been naughty.

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel My rating: 4 of 5 stars At first, I got quite confused with the writing style. Did not know what was going on and who was talking at any given time. So it was slow going at first. But then, I got REALLY into it. This book single-handedly revived my interest in history, which had been waning, and now I want to read as many historical fictions AND non-fiction as I...

No evil shall escape my sight!!
Last night I watched the Green Lantern. Two things stuck out:
1. That moment between Hal and Carol after he’s saved her.
Carol Ferris: Hal?!?!?!?!
Hal Jordan: Miss….?? =S
Carol Ferris: Hal??!?
Hal Jordan: How’d you know?
Carol Ferris: I’ve known you forever, do you really think I wouldn’t be able to recognize you just because you covered your cheekbones?!?!?
